“We are cups, constantly and quietly being filled. The trick is, knowing how to tip ourselves over and let the beautiful stuff out.” -Ray Bradbury

“Whatever the cost of our libraries, the price is cheap compared to that of an ignorant nation.” – Walter Cronkite

The above is a page in my notebook that I talked about last week. I keep all sorts of info in there. Fortune cookie fortunes, descriptions of places (an Axe throwing “bar”), descriptions of events or things that catch my interest. I wrote about the local polling place during the past election. Things I have seen on the internet, an article about Harold Holt, the 17th Prime Minister of Australia, that vanished while swimming with friends. And lots of quotes, as if you haven’t noticed I love collecting quotes.

The point is my notebook won’t look like anybody else’s notebook. And that is the awesome thing, it is wholly a creation of your making. If you have a spare moment Google the writing notebooks or commonplace books of writers and everyday folks. Some are so intricate and some are simple. Library of Congress has scanned lots of documents, check out letters of Thomas Jefferson and others. These are clues to our past. However they can serve as inspiration for us today and for the future.

I am hopefully giving you some food for thought. Cheers, james
