If you grew up in the late ’80s and ’90s in the US, Saturday morning cartoons ended with LeVar Burton and Reading Rainbow. This was one of the staples of my childhood, I would glued to the chair listening to him read children stories. Well after Reading Rainbow ended Mr. Burton put together a podcast which is Reading Rainbow for adults, called LeVar Burton Reads. Now I stumbled onto his podcast via IHeart Radio, but you can find it in otger places as well.
I was listening to the podcast yesterday while he was reading Driftglass by Samuel R. Delany. It was published in an anthogology back in the ’70s. I didn’t finish the whole story so I don’t know how it ends. And I am excited to turn it back on and finish. It is an hour long edited version of the story. However the magic in Mr. Burton’s voice is still strong and takes me back to those days glued to Reading Rainbow.
Podcasts are still a new venture for me and I’ve only listened to three or four episodes. The one with the knight and little old lady was funny. Highly recomend it.
Cheers, james
I love LeVar Burton Reads! I just finished season two recently and he really brings the stories to life with his voice. Different Kinds of Darkness and The Fliers of Gy were among my recent favorites.
Season 2 is out. Awesome. I have to get back to listening. 🙂
He is actually on season four now- I’m behind, as I’m about to start season three myself.
I guess I am way behind.
